BaToo - Barcode Recognition Toolkit
BaToo is a freely available 1D barcode recognition toolkit created back in 2006 that was intended to facilitate the creation of novel applications and services based on the recognition of bar codes using camera equipted mobile phones. It is still available on the web, even though I developed the underlying recognition technology during the last years much further (see notes below). It reminds me at least of the early days of mobile phone development back in 2005 and 2006 when this project was created... :-)
Have fun, Robert Adelmann

The bar code recognition technology is now commercialized by the ETH Spin-Off company Mirasense AG. Feel free to contact them in case you are interested in the technology.

Finally, a working version of the next generation barcode scanner for mobile phones is developed, implemented and working great!

Example image of a bar code (encoded bar code number: 5410076027705) obtained from a mobile phone without autofocus camera. Such images can be correctly decoded with the next generation barcode scanner I developed.
7th Mai 2007
The C++ Symbian version of the recognition is making very good progress, like the added example videos show.
4th February 2007
The structure of the recognition algorithm used in the demo applications has been slightly changed in order to ease the implementation of decoders for additional code symbologies besides EAN13.
8th November 2006
New versions of the demo applications that feature an improved recognition performance and slightly modified user interfaces have been uploaded.
