Research Activities

• Within the NCCR MICS - Terminodes - IP9: Communicating Embedded Systems project, I've worked on coordinated and energy-efficient multi-hop media-access and routing protols for quasi-static wireless sensor networks. I've also looked t issues of deploying and debugging a sensor networks.
• For implementations, I've used our BTnode platform which runs our BTnut on top of the Ethernut Nut/OS .

• A Portable User-Space Bluetooth Stack for embedded systems, including the iPhone.
• AVR Light Controller for LiPo/LiIon-Powered Halogen Bike Lights. Experience "The Flow(tm)" at night :)
• libxine-java provides Java bindings to the versatile xine multimedia player library and allows Java apps to play almost any media format in an AWT Canvas and in fullscreen mode on Mac OS X and Linux.
• nmSync, a distributed file synchronized tool for disconnected operation, uses portable media (USB sticks, SD cards, Floppy disks, etc.. ) to transport updates between file repositories. It is in beta stage, but can be used with some precaution on Mac OS X and Windows.
• Fink provides a convenient way to use open-source unix software on Mac OS X. I'm providing relevant fink packages to work with the BTnodes and Mac OS X (avr-binutils, avr-gcc, avr-libc and uisp). You can get a list of fink packages by me.
• The LIRC Mac OS X port is in the CVS.
• An Infared Receiver and LIRC drivers for the audio input.
• ComLink, a Palm OS Application that enables the IR interface on Handspring Visor devices.

Curriculum Vitae

Matthias Ringwald received a masters degree in computer science from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2001. During his masters thesis, he worked 4 months at the Aware Home of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA. From May 2002 until April 2008 he was a research assistant in the Distributed Systems Group at the ETH Zurich, Switzerland. He defended his PhD thesis on January 27, 2009. In January 2009, he joined Dybuster AG to fight Dyslexia and Dyscalculia!
