Gustavo Alonso is professor of Computer Science at the Swiss Federal Technical University of Zurich (ETHZ).  He holds degrees in Computer Science (M.S., 1992, and Ph.D., 1994) from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and in Telecommunications Engineering (Eng., 1989) from the Madrid Technical University in Spain. Before joining ETHZ, he was an associate researcher at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California.
